dump your sitewides links

edwin said: "here's a website i've watched before. before the last update they had a PR 7 on their main page and 8 on some internal pages. they have 28,000 backlinks in google and now they're a PR 6. if you check their footer links, most of the sites they cross-link with have been summarily reduced. it seems true of many sites i monitor. dump your sitewides, they don't help anymore and they probably hurt."

AngelaCea said: "Dump your sitewides? Edwin, take the time to explain to folks what sitewides are, remember folks are not advanced enough to understand terms that are used sometimes. Tell us what "sitewides" are?"

edwin said: "good point, anthony. for those who don't know: a sitewide link is a link from every page of a website."

Darksat said: "They still work for yahoo."

edwin said: "yeah they do. so just exclude "googlebot" on your feeder sites."

Darren said: "MSN and Yahoo are still adding "low quality" links quite good, as you said. Google is actually getting more sophisticated it seems. Edwin has a good suggestion: just exclude GoogleBot from robots.txt if you're doing anything dicey. Or you could always do the Pre-2001 era and build multiple sites for each search engine."

Heather said: "It seems kind of risky, but it does make a website look a lot better if there aren't a bunch of sponsored links."

Tommy New Shoes said: "What can I read to learn how to get my site to show when searched. The site has been up and I cant get it to come up unless it is typed into the bar no matter what search engine. Sorry to kill you guys with this one."

edwin said: "hi tommy, what's the url? it might be something like a code in error if it can't be found at all. if you post the address we can take a look."
