pricingpricing

What is the best way to price building a website for someone from the ground up, graphics and all? On a remote host (ex: homestead, hypermart, others)?
Thanks,
Tyler"

then charge them a set amount per hour. That way its all inclusive.
if the work involves server scripting and database work, you put the hourly price up. This way you have to keep a log of the hours you work though.
you could also have a set charge for the overall site design, then a set price per page on top, again charge extra for dynamic coding."
tymlls05 said: "thanks, thats really helpful. what would you say is a fair price for charging hourly on these things and coming out with a nice website?
thanks again."
Neutron2k said: "it depends on the web site you are building."
Sharky said: "to be honest i would charge $1-$2 a hour."
Heather said: "Hello Tyler.
It would depend on what needs done. Some charge hourly while others charge a flat fee.
How big of a project is it?"
tracepeople said: "selling a client on a service by the hour is difficult.
People want to know the total cost, or an estimate and will expect you to stick to it. Best to use the per hour fee to calculate what you think the total cost should be and then do the job for that price - you'll get alot more clients that way."

$1-$2 an hour?
you realise that is about 50p-£1 an hour sharky?"
Darren said: "That is a scary low wage."

Exactly! One false move and you're dead at this margin."
tracepeople said: "I think he was inferring that most web designers on the market are total novices that charge a high wage for amature work."

but charging that little would be very amaturish ...you'd be better off doing it for nothing!"

quinny said: "that is true ...lol"
tymlls05 said: "so, 35 hourly guess? then say i think a project will take me a day or 2 (saying i have all the information content for the page)...
8 hour days
thats looking at something like 560, maybe less just to build the website...
ok nvm that maybe, i think im looking at this like a construction worker or something.
i do the graphics, quality website, 10-15 dollars an hour?
there are still hosting fee's
and monthly maintenance if they decide they want that...
man guys. help i'm phsycho.. or getting there anyways."
Neutron2k said: "there is not right or wrong way to charge!
altough i would strongly advise against hourly rates because you can never give an estimate time wise, and it means you have to keep logs of your hours and what your doing.
come up with a base price based on what the client wants.
thats the best way i think.
then charge extra for them to have the copyright as well."
