Incoming links???

chris3471 said: "It's strange but I'm not seeing any of my posts showing up in my other blog as incoming links. I'm also not seeing them at Technorati but if I search for them they're there just no links from them. This is the same for both blogs.  I don't think I'm seeing anything new coming in from any of the blogs for the last few days. I think since we changed the blogroll to the include thing."

Heather said: "Do this search at MSN: link:http://www.bloggeries.com/blog/ It displays about 16 links.. I'll see what I can find at Technorati.."

chris3471 said: "I did that earlier and I see the links. As for Technorati if I search for the title of my posts I find them, I'm just not seeing them as incoming links on the other blog."

edwin said: "you have 17 at technorati today"

chris3471 said: "Right but if you go down to the where the links are after the second set of sponsored links you will see "Review: The Auto Blog" which was a post from the 16th. Now why is there no link from the 17th and 18th I posted both days?"

edwin said: "did you ping them?"

chris3471 said: "Even now, I posted a half an hour ago and my post isn't showing up in anybody's blogs but if I search for the title of the post it's there. Oh and yes I pinged them."

edwin said: "chris, did you claim your blog on technorati yet?"

chris3471 said: "I did that just befor I made those last posts. Could it just be that Technorati is slow with new blogs?"

Darren said: "Nope. Blog Republic is a lot newer and has 34 links."

chris3471 said: "I didn't think that could be it. Last night I made my posts and then checked thr other blogs and I saw a post from the pixiechic blog saying posted 30 minutes ago but even after a couple hours mine was still not showing."

Darren said: "You did just add those rewrite rules. I'd give it a few days before I'd worry. Check out this blog reviews allinanchor search. You're 24th in allinanchor for "blog reviews" in Google, so the site is moving up fast. Blog Republic is now number one for "Blog Republic"."

chris3471 said: "Hey that's good. Ok but as for the rewrite rules though I only did them on bloggeries, what about SMB?"

Darren said: "It's because of the rewrite. You have a different number of links at Technorati based on www or not. That will clear up in days."

Darren said: "
Hey that's good. Ok but as for the rewrite rules though I only did them on bloggeries, what about SMB?
You said it was Yahoo hosting and couldn't do it I thought."

chris3471 said: "Right, Yahoo sucks, so I couldn't do them on SMB and that blog is having the same problem. I think I did change it from to though in the options. Minus the brakets of course."

Darren said: "I guess it gives us an experiment. We can see how difference the performance is between the two website. If it's huge, you can move hosts at some point and re-write it. I think the key is getting the 301 in place on the majority of websites, like we have and then cross-linking. Blog Republic already moved up to 9th place (based on authority) for Blog Networks, so the competition doesn't look all that fierce. If we post often and get incoming links, there's no chance of failure."

chris3471 said: "Oh we will succede, failure is not in my vocabulary and neither is quit. Here's what I see at Technorati for my blogs I claimed. "

Darren said: "Yeah, the Bloggeries one already moved up in popularity too."

chris3471 said: "It was like that as soon a I claimed it though."

Darren said: "Yeah, they must have been tracking it already I guess. The key is to keep that number rising."

chris3471 said: "Well I'll keep writing and hope that this works itself out then."

Darren said: "That's all you need to do now. Just make posts. Each time we post, we link. Can't really beat it. The more we post, the more we can boast. In fact if we post, the competition is toast."

chris3471 said: "So I guess you will be starting a webmaster poet society blog soon."

Darren said: "Not with crap like that I won't :)"

chris3471 said: "I'm glad I didn't have to say that."

Darren said: "Chris, it looks like you have the re-write working on SMB?"

chris3471 said: "Maybe Yahoo has it all set so there's no need to change the .htaccess file?"

Darren said: "It doesn't do the www to non-www but the URLS are search engine friendly. There must be a .htaccess somewhere."

chris3471 said: "Oh right that's because I found a work around for not having Mod_rewrite. I did the permalink structure like this.
/index.php/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/
"

Darren said: "That still uses mod_rewrite, so they support it. Maybe send them an email and ask."

chris3471 said: "I'll do that, I was thinking about it anyway."

Darren said: "That's what you pay them for :)"

chris3471 said: "Yeah and even though I often say they suck they do have fairly good customer service. Things I don't like though is that they provide you with database tools such as phpmyadmin but they don't update them. I updated to the latest version of phpmyadmin last night v2.8.0.2 and the version that Yahoo had provided was 2.4.x, there were a lot of security updates that have been released since then. It also solved the problem I was having with FF not working past the login, before I was just getting a blank screen."

Darren said: "That's the toughest part of being a host: updating."

chris3471 said: "And possibly the most important too."

Darren said: "Links up majorly today at MSN now. 34 since going live last Tuesday night."

chris3471 said: "I have 34 between 2 blogs. :D"

chris3471 said: "
i had yahoo for a while but their version of phpmyadmin was ancient plus i found their customer service non existent so i jumped ship ...must say though that the uptime was 100% ...never saw my site down...
I wish I could say the same about the up time, I'd have to say about 90% but that's only on the php pages, html is 100%. Actually I think my constant emails about the problem must have had an effect though because I haven't had a problem in a couple of weeks, before that it was about 3 or 4 times a day that the php pages wouldn't work."

Darren said: "How long is your contract for?"

quinny said: "it's rolling as far as i can remember..."

Darren said: "If it every gets too bad, you can always switch."

chris3471 said: "Planning on getting my own as soon as I start seeing a decent profit."

quinny said: "oh yeah the price was another reason i left... although i think it has come down since"

chris3471 said: "I pay about $13 per month."

Darren said: "Could be worse, but that's not cheap either."

chris3471 said: "I was paying $32 per month untill I realized I didn't need that much storage or data transfer then I reduced it to the webhosting starter package."

Darren said: "Good thinking. Always great to save a few bucks."

chris3471 said: "With the money I'm saving I could start 2 more sites if I wanted."
