blogging can lose you your job

One company I found (one of our competitors) i check to see how they were creating their backlinks. 95% of about 1000 links were coming from 8 bloggs they had set up. Anything to add?"

edwin said: "blogs are a good source of links right now. it might change down the road, but you may as well use blogs to your advantage in the meantime. blogs can be a good way to attract links."

Darksat said: "Blogs, directories, wikis, all are good sources of links."

DodgeCroft said: "What are wiki's exactly how are they used?"

edwin said: "[url=http://www.wikipedia.org/]wikis[/url] are a type of encyclopedia. they used to be very easy to spam, because they're edited by their visitors. so you would just go in and drop your links. most wikis had high pagerank, so your link would get counted right away. [url=http://www.google.com/googleblog/2005/01/preventing-comment-spam.html]nofollow[/url] was introduced to combat the spam."

DodgeCroft said: "So is there any point in trying to use them now? I have only recently come across them and know very little about them."

edwin said: "no point in spamming them. they were one of the biggest proponents of "nofollow" and instituted it immediately. the wiki links don't count anymore."

DodgeCroft said: "not interested in spamming anyone anymore. So what are they useful for as a visitor?"

edwin said: "yeah. they're like mini-encyclopedias. every now and again you can come across some wiki pages that are really impressive."
