April: time to blog

Darren said: "It's a great time to blog. The flowers are rising, Spring is in the air."

Heather said: "Lots of good stuff to talk about, that's for sure!"

Darren said: "I only missed two days. The 31st and 1st. Other than that I've been solid since March 12th."

quinny said: "do you want a medal?"

Other than that I've been solid since March 12th.
I've missed a few, I missed yesterday because I fell asleep at 6:30pm while waiting for a bunch of files to upload. You have what about 20 years experience in web design, ect, that has to help a lot. I have 4 months in, not many experiences to draw off, and am struggling a little bit on the SMB blog. I had writers block so bad one day that to try and beat it I wrote about writers block.:D"

Darren said: "I started with web development in June 2004. I was an ISP before that. I actually hired some fool for $4,000 in 2003 to optimize my site and he didn't do jack. Then I learned on my own. And no, Quinny, I don't want a medal. I want fresh posts in the blog network. Almost all of everyone's pages are spidered in all of the search engines, but the only way to get traffic is to write about something. I haven't even seen Darksat in a while, and no one has even commented in my blogs, so it's looking like people fell off fast."

Heather said: "I think it has more to do with being consistant. Putting up a post (at least) every couple of days shouldn't be a problem.."

I had a $300 weekend with only a few listings, I've just finished with my "feeling the market" stage and now I'm preparing for a full scale operation with over 100 listings running at the same time. I spent the past 2 months just experimenting with different listings for the same product, I've tried different images, different start and end times and different descriptions and used the counters and sales to judge their effectiveness. I'll probably leave some comments in everybody's blogs this week."

Darren said: "Cool. This was just a quick reminder to make sure everyone is alive. Let's face it: sometimes ideas like this are met with enthusiasm, but not too much happens."

chris3471 said: "I'm thinking about writing all my posts to MS Word on the same day and then each day just pick one to post, either that or else just writing a few extras on days I feel like writing a lot and saving them for days I don't have time for writing."

Darren said: "Either way. Even 20 posts per month I'm sure is enough. I just think a blog that's updated 3 times per month is not going to have much worth to the search engines."

Heather said: "20 posts a month seems fair. That would be 10 "off" days in a 30 day month. ..or 33% of the month off.."

chris3471 said: "I agree, I try to make at least 6 posts in a week though."

Darren said: "I'm aiming for 7, but since there's no "audience" yet, if I miss a day, who'll notice?"

chris3471 said: "Exactly. I think after another month or so we will start to see a lot of returning visitors and then we will feel more like writing daily."

Darren said: "No doubt about it. There's only going to be isolation in the beginning. Once you're getting real feedback, the job gets easier."

quinny said: "i'm up the walls at the moment and not doing much with regard to filmmaking yet... i've taken on extra work at work for the next month (boring crap like making sure evryone gets paid!) plus i've got about 4 work related websites that need to get sorted out ....then i've got a bout 3-4 websites myself i'm trying to develope... plus i must get round to writing a few shorts for hopefully shoot during the summer... chris writing in MS word is a good idea... thats the way i do although i haven't build many up yet... BK, i'll post on a medal anyway!"

Darren said: "No problem. Just do your best."

chris3471 said: "
chris writing in MS word is a good idea... thats the way i do although i haven't build many up yet...
I think that's what I'm going to start doing, on days I have extra time I'll write a couple extras and save them for reserve posts for days when I don't have time. This will probably be a good idea since summer is coming and I don't usually spend much time on the computer in the summer, it's more of a winter thing for me because I don't like the cold so it gives me something to do."

quinny said: "plus it will help you're writing skills..."

chris3471 said: "That too, I think they are improving though."

Heather said: "Practice makes perfect.. They say.. It seems to be more of a discipline than anything else. As our readership grows, having a blog that is active is what'll matter the most. Keeping your content fresh will help to attract (and keep) readers.."

tracepeople said: "do you not think that making blog entries on a weekly basis makes more sense? so you can have lots of good info for your posts and not just daily stuff?"

edwin said: "it all depends on your niche. some niches you can't find news on all the time"

Darksat said: "I have been working on my Photography in my spare time, Plus, DJ school, martial arts training, clubbing, partying, drinking, freelancing, etc, etc. When I get some real spare time I will go mental, but as I get very little people at my blog at the moment its hard to work up a good flow."

Darren said: "April, time to get blogging? LOL. That's wrong on so many levels."
