backlink update january 2005

edwin said: "what an ugly mess this one was! i see lots of fluctuation still! :D"

Heather said: "The latest update is real weird. True 'dat. I learned to worry less about the TB when I downloaded Firefox. I never downloaded it again. I still feel it is important to have PR, but serves more as "eye-candy" to link traders and other webmasters. As long as the SERP's are stable I don't mind much. And with the introduction of all of these new pages, wouldn't the law of "supply" (PR) and demand (new pages) almost have to go into affect?"

Darren said: "Pagerank means the most to link sellers. The toolbar is always 90 days out date. For seo purposes that is way to outdated. You need to use Yahoo's link command to check for links. Big changes are afoot at Google. They've been getting a lot more page-based lately, and ignoring or discounting links quite a bit. I see major changes ahead as their infrastructure gets better."

Darksat said: "I still think TLA is on the way in."

edwin said: "could be. there was a fundamental change this time out. pages don't pass pagerank in the same way they used to."

Darren said: "Sitewide links appear to really, really be at their lowest value in years. Google has gotten wise to many of the link seller's tricks. I haven't received a reply on why all my backlinks are gone, but I guess it might be related to the brutal 6 day outage. Ouch."

Darksat said: "Yeah my forum was down as well, Im sure its affected my SERPS."

Darren said: "The ToolBar is literally blinking in and out. This site is going between a 5 and 6. www.google.com now shows the correct backlinks, so I'd say this is a very strange update."

Darksat said: "Im sure it was lower for me earlier today, a PR4 or something, do you think they might have decided to implement real time PR? Edit> Actually I dont think so. It could be that they are playing around with the value of PR."

edwin said: "i have seen varying pr's for days now. i thought i went nuts!"

Darksat said: "We all thought you went nuts. It has to be them adjusting the PR value. WHy else would they have a PR update so soon after the last one (Soon for Google anyway)"

Heather said: "I have a silly question, but what exactly is a TLA? Thanks!"

Darksat said: "Temporal Link Analasis. http://www.aaitechnologies.co.uk/chat/viewtopic.php?t=97"

edwin said: "the toolbar is complete bullcrap. something 90 days out of date is just too stale to matter."

Darksat said: "Well if you see a site with a PR5 you can be fairly sure it hasnt got a PR0 however id you see a site with a PR0 you cant be sure it dosnt have a PR5, the best thing to do is to check backlinks. In yahoo preferably."

Heather said: "Thanks for the explanation, DarkSat. I have always thought that PR is updated internally all the time. If it is the "lifeblood" of the internet, it can't stop flowing and "What you see isn't always what you get". They don't update it every day, but they have to be calculating all the time. That is what computers do, after all.."

edwin said: "yes. very true. this is no time to discriminate against pagerank 0 sites because you may be wrong."

Darren said: "Chasing PageRank is the biggest mis-conception you can learn from reading the webmaster forums. Take a good look at SERPS, and you'll see most pages that rank are PR5 or below."

Darksat said: "The PR on the pages linking to you with the correct anchor text is important, the PR of your page isnt, (Well not much anyway)"

edwin said: "pagerank matters for spider frequency. if you have a big site you really need pagerank to make sure all your pages get spidered."

Darksat said: "or you could just have fresh content, that works just as well for spider frequency and is easier to do."

Darren said: "I don't think Google cares about "freshness". They base spidering on the PageRank of pages. A PR 8 page, because it's so important will get spidered multiple times daily, a PR 3 page may get spidered once every 3 days. But keep in mind, the internal PageRank of Google is different than the toolbar. But pretty much, if you have a PR 6 page, you'll be spidered daily, at least your main page to see if any changes have been made. PR 6 is a decent goal for most sites, and is relatively easy to achieve."

roksanna said: "Hi, Does Google's "sandbox" exist really?"

roksanna said: "Why does Google not see my inbound links?"

Heather said: "You probably don't have links from other websites that get spidered frequently. Have you submitted your websites to any directories?"

edwin said: "strange you should bump a thread from 2005 to ask a question."

roksanna said: "
You probably don't have links from other websites that get spidered frequently. Have you submitted your websites to any directories?
Hello Heather, I submitted my site to about 100 directories manually and to 300 sites as well during last month. My site is new-less than two month age. MSN,Yahoo! fix my back link, but Google..."

Heather said: "It might just take a little patience, Roksana. I'd suggest updating your website with relevant content and continue to build your link profile. Good luck!"

roksanna said: "Hello Heather! Thank you. I am thinking to call myself 'Guppy' accordingly your backlink ranking :)"
