New website I'm building - you're invited to participateNew website I'm building - you're invited to participate
Darren said: "I have a pretty ambitious plan to build a social news site (yes, a Digg-style website), with some twists on the current ones.
I plan on making the entire project Open Source - all the code will be distributable so that people can have and host their own version.
If you would like to contribute to the design of the project and to the code development, let me know.
This will be a great way for you to get extremely valuable links to yourself (you'll be listed on some well-linked to pages as a member of the community), so the SEO benefits will be good.
The entire project will be completely transparent, with an emphasis on learning. Although the project would be Open Source, there will also be many money-making opportunities for the team leaders.
If you're interested in being a part of this, let me know."
quinny said: "hmm, interesting.... while i wouldn't be the greatest designer or coder, any other way i could help out, i'd be glad to...."
Darren said: "Sounds good. We'll also need general contributers, promoters, etc.
It would give us a chance to walk a development project through from beginning to end, which could be a useful tool to teach people on here, also."
Heather said: "I'm in for whatever way I can help.."
Darren said: "That's what I love about you, Heather :)
Here's what I have so far: thumd.net
I have a pretty extensive code base I've been working on, so I should be able to add some functionality relatively quickly.
I'll also post the code as I go along."
Sharky said: "I'll happily help, I'm not the best web developer around but i know my way around photoshop and notepad :)"
Darren said: "Sounds good, Sharky. The first thing we'll need is some icons and avatars.
For sure I picture:
1) A Thumbs Up - I Like It
2) A Thumbs Down - I Don't Like It
If worse comes to worse I could take a picture of my hand I guess and shrink it down :)"
raven said: "Count me in for whatever I can do :)"
Darren said: "Will do. I've already added some basic functionality. You can register, submit stories, etc."
David Super said: "Great website. When will the source code be available. By the way! could you please take a quik look at my site and give me some suggestions on anything that stands out or not.."
Sharky said: "sorry I'm going to have to pull out of the idea, i have too much on my plate sorry."
quinny said: "hmm... i can't log in ....saying my user name doesn't exist, got the confirmation email and all "

What browser do you use?"
quinny said: "dosen't work in either FF or IE"
Darren said: "Hmm. Is there any special characters you're using? / * something?"
quinny said: "quinny  "
Darren said: "Do you have cookies turned off?"
edwin said: "looks like the site is indexed in google already
thats pretty fast"
Darren said: "Yes indeed. There's 41 pages indexed already.
I added quite a bit of functionality in the website yesterday. It now does trackbacks when you "thumb" someone. I also added features in several places and made the entire website search engine friendly.
I also wrote all of the basic "about us" pages, set up email, designed a logo, founded a blog, and promoted the website.
thumbd had 213 page views yesterday, in its second day of existence :)"
Heather said: "That's pretty darn impressive, considering how "slow" G can be about fixing their SERP's sometimes."
Darksat said: "Thats good, how many IBLs do you have?"
Heather said: "It's got fuel from the network.."

Not enough to be a really big fish yet, but that's only for 6 days.
Check the site out. I need beta testers. Submit quality news stories and vote on them. It's working pretty good, but I need to improve certain areas.
The website already has a bit of traffic too, because it's communicating with the people who get thumbd."
rickyjoreturns said: "Excellent site! If I can help let me know.
I'll look into perhaps writing for it."
