How long does gogle take to show backlinks?

DodgeCroft said: "Hey guys Been working on getting backlinks for about a month and a half now and none of them show up in gogle yet! Is there a time period that needs to go by? We should have about 100 backlinks and only showing 6 (those mostly from our other pages). Can anyone give me some sort of How Long? Thanks Oz (www.xcapewithus.com, maybe I'm not checking correctly!?)"

edwin said: "hi, it used to be that google would update the backlinks every 2 weeks. this went on for at least 6 months until february. so far, there has been no update of the backlinks since february 2. i also note that the effect of backlinks are not as noticable when spidered. i'm hoping we see a backlink update very soon."

Padawan said: "I can sympathise as I have over 250 backlinks and not one is showing in google and only a few have appeared so far in other search engines. I'm hoping they will give me my first bit of page rank as most are from PR 3-7 sites and are one-way."

Darren said: "Yeah. Keep this in mind from the last year: 1) Backlink updates every 2 weeks. 2) Toolbar PageRank updated once every 90 days. They skipped the backlinks update in the last few weeks. The 90 day ToolBar update would be on 4/1/2005. April Fool's day, FWIW."

Heather said: "Their index has been (dare I say) stale for weeks now. MSN is picking up changes a lot quicker than G."

edwin said: "funny enough: backlinks updated during the night! check your link command today!"

Padawan said: "WOW, I got a whole 5 in google....... guess its better than zero. Oh well, maybe in another couple of weeks they will show up"

Darksat said: "MSN is crawling like a MoFo though."

DodgeCroft said: "What I would love to know is when gogle decide that backlinks are no longer the issue, what will be the next factor? DOes anyone have any ideas? Reason I ask is so many site have tons of backlinks (some relavent others BS) and I don't feel the that is the best way to rate a site!"

edwin said: "that's a good question and one everyone is looking out for. they're talking more about latent sematic indexing these days. they would love to be able to analyze the pages better semantically."

Padawan said: "Rest assured that whatever the new ranking factor is, as soon as people know about it there will be guides on optimising for it and tools for checking it :D"

DodgeCroft said: "Yeah for sure, but one needs to keep an ear to the ground in the meantime! What is semantic indexing if I can ask?"

edwin said: "be prepared to read for a few hours. latent semantic indexing"

Darksat said: "Or even 5 minutes. http://javelina.cet.middlebury.edu/lsa/out/lsa_definition.htm"

edwin said: "i'm pretty sure that this is not what's happening in google. i mean not totally. some occurences of lsi seem to be happening, like they're analyzing backlinks and the surrounding text ."

Darksat said: "Latent Semantic indexing, the Inbound link curve from Temporal link analasis plus a few other tricks. Title and on page optimisation is getting devalued as well."

yourlifeforce said: "This stinks ... I have about 1,000 backlinks ... but only 3 are being picked up by Google right now. ERRRRR!!!"

Darren said: "Google is always behind with link data."
