Hi,
I have a website where I sell network cameras. How do I create an internal search engine so that customers can just type in a product and the engine will take them to the right page?
Best,
Einar"
Darren said: "Einar, that depends on your server.
What server software are you running? (example: IIS or Apache). Also, do you have a database system installed?"
Darksat said: "Hi Lucy, Im the guy edwin likes to call lilmikey, but you can call me Mike,
if your running a cpanel9 Setup you should have an inbuilt search engine in your control panel
eg
if your control panel is located at www.yourdomain.com/cpanel
its probably a cpanel9 setup,(this is the most popular type of professional hosting setup, default on a large percentage of linux servers)
if you have something else please tell us and we will sort something out for you."

hi
edwin,im kelvin and can you help me.these are the thing i know.
1.i wanna build a web that would help people.
2.it should be good(in the sence it must be simple).
3.i tryed to build it on angelfire, bravenet.but im not so happy with it.
so please tell me a way that i would be able to build it myself like a master. "
edwin said: "hello kelvin,
you don't need any of those things. you can build a great website with the tools already installed on your computer.
you should think about getting your own domain and hosting though."
brick said: "Hey Edwin, I'm kinda confused of where to start with my website, I'm already working on it, but once it's completed I don't know where to go from there.
I know I have to register a domain name or some thing, but is that all I need to bring my site to life? Also can you recommend some good sites to buy domain names aand such?
Thanks"
edwin said: "sure brick,
these are the steps:
1) you need a webserver that has space for your pages or databases
2) you need some sort of website creation program or a way to edit files
3) you need a domain name that resolves to your web-space
once you upload the files to the webspace, people can access the site.
http://www.godaddy.com is a decent registrar. domains are around $7 for the year."
brick said: "How would I get a web server, if i sign up with godaddy for example, wouldn't I be using there surver?"
raven said: "Domain registration and hosting companies are two different things. You need a web address to use for your website - this is the domain part which would be www.whateveryournameis.com or .net or .info whatever extension you want to use.
Once you have your site built you'll need a home for this web address which would be the web host. Once you have your address on the server (host) you will then upload your website and use your web address to show everyone.
I think GoDaddy has hosting plans too but I don't know how good/expensive they are."
AngelaCea said: "You need to get some help from a web programmer/designer at this point.
Since you are looking at GoDaddy.com why not just play around with a few of their "Do it yourself" website building programs
If you are not a coder/designer that is about the only way to put up your own site unless you work with someone that is a professional."
DonEc said: "Before spending money on a domain name build a couple websites using a good free domain service like cjb.cc. They have no ads and they have a good url like yoursitename.cjb.cc. They also have a great support forum. I have a site that has step by step instructions on how to get a no cost website at
DonEc Web No Cost Web Sites it is a little out of date but it will work. I am currently working on a new site for the same thing that uses more up to date methods like CSS and PHP includes. If I can be of any assistance you can email me and I'll do what I can. I have been building and running Free no cost web sites since around the mid 90's and it is easy to do even using all free software."
brick said: "This is for edwin or DonEc, or any of you smart guys. I keep hearing about some FTP I need to download to put my site online? Can any of you clear this up for me and where can I get it."
raven said: "I use WS_FTP but CuteFTP is supposed to be good too. I don't think it really matters which one you use, Brick. Sometimes the hosting company has their own uploader so you may not even need one.
And I'm not a guy, but, oh well :) "
AngelaCea said: "
This is for edwin or DonEc, or any of you smart guys. I keep hearing about some FTP I need to download to put my site online? Can any of you clear this up for me and where can I get it.
Hey man, if you want to host your own sites go to http://www.page-zone.com/forums/, get on their forum and ask Jim to help you get started."
brick said: "mmmmmm....but what is this FTP used for?"
Neutron2k said: "File Transport Protocol (FTP) is a Server/Client system that allows you to transport files from one computer to another via the internet.
This is how you upload your website files to a web server. An example of an FTP client is WSFTP, or Smart FTP. You setup a connection to your webserver using the servers domain name or ip address, and you login with your account details. Then you can upload and download files from your webspace on that server."
DonEc said: "I just recently bought my first domain name from Godaddy.com it is bestwebstop.net and I chose bdarby.com for my hosting service because they also have a free (cjb.cc) hosting service that host both my wifes site and one of my sites an have such very good support. The cost of the domain name was $8.95 plus $0.25 for ICANN fee. I also got their Who is identity protection for another $8.95 but since I got it at the same time as my domain name it was reduced to $3.94 (approximately as I remember it). My hosting was $35.40 for one year that is $2.95 per month which you can also do. For that I got the following....
150 MB space, 10 Gig Data Transfer, PHP Support, 3 MySQL, Databases, 15 Email Accounts, 34 Auto Install Scripts, FrontPage Extensions, Plesk Control Panel (This is a simplistic list) and as I said before great support from both forum and email. All I did was give the information Brian needed (the owner) about my domain name and he completely took care of every thing in getting me setup for free all I had to do was ftp my site up to the server.
I've heard that if you get a domain name from Godaddy that you can get it hosted by them either for free or for very little but I have also heard some horror stories about Godaddy hosting and also that you should avoid hosting with the same people as you got your domain name from since moving it at a later date may be a problem in such cases."
brick said: "just a quick question...i'm using front page 2002 to create a site, do i still need "FTP" software to publish my site? Also when you click on the botton to publish your website and then it asks you for your user name and password, do they mean my "godaddy.com" user name and password?
A response would be appreciated :)"
Neutron2k said: "Frontpage uses what is called frontpage extensions to interact and upload files to your server. that way you dont need to know the ftp details of the server, you can just enter your url and password.
Try using frontpage to upload to your server. (yes it is your userid and password for your webspace).
If that doesnt work, i dont think frontpage has an ftp client built in like dreamweaver does so keep an ftp program handy.
Hope this helps :)"
