Designmad said: "Hey everyone,
I've had a few clients recently asking about higher rankings in Google, I said that I can help you out a little bit but my knowledge is limited on the subject.
The main thing I think with getting higher ranking in Google is using anchor text, and going around websites submitting your url to places like directories or social bookmarking websites.
Please I would love to start somewhere with SEO please can you help me I like to do quality services for my clients.
Thanks."
Heather said: "I'd suggest not making promises that you can't keep, but anchor text and solid content both help.
How long have you been involved with SEO?"
Designmad said: "I haven't made a promis about getting Google ranks up, to my client I said I shall see what I can do but their will be no charge as I'm designing a site for him.
I mentioned checking out google ad words etc...
I've only been testing out SEO for about a year i guess now its just so slow it takes a long time to find some of the best ways to get good rankings."

Designmad said: "Thanks, I don't fancy giving people another company to go with, at the moment I will just say I will do what I can as I'm still learning SEO but i wont charge them.
So what does everyone find they get better page rank out of?
Does anyone know of any books that can come highly recommended that will teach me this stuff fast :).
Thanks."

Heather said: "In my opinion, it's better to work on developing traffic for a website as opposed to building PR.
Targeted traffic will pay more than page rank in the long run, especially if you have a product to sell and convert."
Designmad said: "Thanks for the link roksanna I've actually subscribed to their newsletters a while back their all in my spam folder though.
Header what do you mean by developing traffic?"
Heather said: "My name is Heather.. not Header ;)
Developing traffic would mean doing things that can get live traffic to your website. Traffic that converts into a reader or a buyer. This would include PPC, listings in directories and links from other websites that could send in people that are interested in your product or service.
I hope this helps!"
edwin said: "header is a cool name for a webmaster :)

Heather said: "Thanks Edwin.. I'll consider that a compliment.
I never thought of it that way ;)"
