PLEASE help, re 'Ulraedit'

Carpetpaul said: "Being a bit of a novice with websites, I've been learning using notepad, a few people are now suggesting that I use one of the editors that make my coding process easier. Ulraedit was suggested, and I now have this program installed. I now find that although my html files load up in IE fine, if I try to view the source I get it in Utraedit. I need to change this so that it continues to open the source code in notepad until I am ready to make the change can anyone tell me how to do this, I'm on Windows XP cheers - Paul"

Carpetpaul said: "thats very kind of you, and thanks for the advice, but for the moment I'd be happy just to be able to switch back the the stadard Notepad that I know have you any idea how to set it back to the default program that opens the source code ? cheers - Paul"

Carpetpaul said: "Must admit that whilst I could not sort out the instructions you gave (my fault, not yours), I'm facinated by this way to adjust this type of setting. If I'm right you meant go to 'C Drive'----->'Windows' when you mention to back this up, it's way too big to go on any removable media that I've got, so would you copy the whole folder and store elsewhere on the pc in order that you could restore the original settings if you had a problem ? -------or would you just back up the bits that you knew you were changing ? not sure what you mean by HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, and since the pc is working fine at the moment I've decided not to worry about making the change for the moment P.S - somone told me that it tends to be the last program that you installed that becomes associated with the files, and that removing notepad and re-installing might allow it to take back control ? Wouldn't you think they'd just include a command where you could right click and choose the default editor ? thanks ---this was another one of those evening where I sat down to work on pages, and got so sidetracked on other things, that although I'm still learning stuff, the web pages are no further on ! Paul"

edwin said: "paul, to get to regedit you type start, run, regedit"

raven said: "Yeah, Paul, he meant to backup your registry, not the whole C drive or windows itself. Type what Edwin said to view your registry but BE careful! Mess something up in there and your computer may not boot up anymore."

Darksat said: "you dont actually type start run, you go to start, run in XPs start menu and then type regedit in the run command then expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key and find the string to modify your registry and follow anthonies instructions. regedit.com is a good place to find more registry tweaks."
