this is a very lucrative business to get in on. Here's the infosearchmedia website, a pagerank 5 site i might add.
this must mean search engine marketing/seo is a great field to get in right now."

They are selling the Google dream over and over to investors, it is the old Wall Street game.
Most of these companies will lose money and fail as the market is saturated, but if the managers can use the IPO proceeds to acquire profitable companies and put together synergies that work between the companies acquired with the funds some of them can make it.
But it really takes some innovative management to pull it off and a little bit of good timing (first mover advantage) and that is not easy to pull off Edwin."

and the main people to get burnt are the stockholders."

My question is when is advertising ever going to get eliminated?
Besides never. The internet is fertile ground to make money. That's what those folks are doing."

Darksat said: "The most effective way of pitching web marketing is by doing it offline with proposals and specific targets, takes a lot more work but the ammount of proffit you an make is much more."

A lot of people would rather meet you face to face, so if they have a problem they know who to blame!"

Yeah. I fall to this category. I know people make money via SEM but I can't just figure out how they do it. I read on this forum that some of Google's employees are millionaires, I rushed down to the site only to find an almost blank page with google's logo and a search form!?!!!! It is like the more I look the less I see. I am a regular user of Yahoo but all I do is search and I don't get to pay for using this service. I keep wondering how they make money on these sites. Could someone please explain in a simple way a GREEN ROOKIE like me will understand what goes on behind the scene on these SE sites that generates millions for them? I will really appreciate it."
edwin said: "sure thing, benji.
here's two searches to illustrate:
yahoo search for phentermine
google search for phentermine
in the yahoo search you'll see 3 links in blue above the searches labeled 1, 2, 3 etc. then if you notice the 7 links in the column in the right, those are all sponsored ads. so yahoo has managed to place 10 sponsored ads on its results page.
in the google page, there are 2 in blue on the top and 8 in the right hand column. so again we have 10 sponsored ads.
if anyone clicks on any of these ads, google or yahoo charge the advertiser money! people do click on these ads, billions of times daily, and it all ads up. so that's how search engines make millions.
search engine marketing is generally done this way: the sem firm approaches a client, and says, you can benefit greatly from ranking your keywords in google and yahoo, we can help. the cost is $50,000! if they do this with enough customers, or big enough accounts, they can get up to the millions in sales."
Benjibabs said: "Thanks Edwin. I got it. But is the charges per click or flat rate? and is this all they do back there to make the Ms? Sounds simple and easy! ;)"
edwin said: "it's per click. there is no set rate, its whatever the advertiser is willing to pay for it.
a word like "auto insurance" sells for around $8 per click and a keyword phrase like "free games" sells for the minimum of a nickel.
if you can imagine all the people clicking all over the world at the same time, you can see why "internet content" is one of the top business sectors going right now!"
Darksat said: "Some people build entire sites about keyword rich subjects."
edwin said: "i am one of those people!"
