Google advanced operators. Here are a few commands you can use to help examine the web pages of high ranking web sites. These commands will give you a better insight into how the rankings work. These are defined as Google Advanced Operators. Below I attempt to provide some examples of the benefits of using these advanced operators.
allinanchor: searches for pages that have the phrase in the anchor text of the links to the page.
allintitle: searches for text between the HTML title tags.
link: Finds pages which contain backlinks to the specified url. Usage: link:www.yourdomain.com. This will show you exactly which sites are linking to a specific page or site.
allinurl: Finds pages that have the searchterm somewhere in the URL. This can be the domain, text, or page name.
allintext: Returns the results for the highest ranking page based on on-page factors for the keywords. Discounts the other off-page factors like allinanchor.
related: Finds web pages which are considered to be related to another page. Gives a clear idea of where Google "thinks" a site belongs.
Quick Tip: If you want to see how of your webpages Google has indexed, you combine the site and the inurl operators like this: site:
www.yourdomain.com inurl:www.yourdomain.com.
Familiarize yourself with these features. They will help you understand the spefics of how Google employs its search functions.
